One quiet evening, just as the sun was slipping behind the hills, Lila sat on her favorite patch of grass in the backyard. She had just finished her favorite story, *The Tale of the Gentle Giant*, and was drifting into a sleepy dream when she noticed something peculiar. A tiny, silver envelope lay on the ground, glowing faintly in the twilight. It had no stamp, no address—just a single word written in shimmering ink: *Lila*.
Curious and a little nervous, she picked it up. The paper felt as soft as a cloud, and when she opened it, the letter began to hum with a gentle, musical sound. She read aloud, 'Dear Lila, I am the Moonlight Mailman, and I deliver dreams to the children who are kind, brave, and curious. Tonight, I have a special task. Your kindness has caught my eye, and I want to invite you to the Moonlight Post Office. If you come, I will give you a star to keep forever. But be quick—the moon is rising soon!'
Lila’s eyes widened with excitement. She ran inside, grabbed her favorite nightgown, and tied her hair in a ponytail. She packed a small bag with her favorite stuffed rabbit, a flashlight, and a jar of stars she had collected from the sky on previous nights. Her parents, thinking she was just playing, waved her goodbye as she slipped out the back door.
The backyard was quiet, but Lila could feel the night waking up around her. She followed the soft glow of the envelope, which led her to the old oak tree at the edge of the garden. She placed her hand on the tree trunk, and with a gentle *click*, the bark opened like a door. Inside, a spiral staircase made of moonlight and stardust led upward into the sky. Lila climbed with wonder, her heart full of hope.
When she reached the top, she found herself in a vast, glowing hall filled with letters, envelopes, and stars. A kind man with a beard made of clouds and a hat shaped like the moon greeted her. 'Welcome, Lila,' he said with a warm smile. 'You are here because you are kind, brave, and curious. Tonight, you will help me deliver a very special dream to a child who needs it most.'
Lila followed the Moonlight Mailman to a quiet little village far away, where a lonely boy named Milo was sitting by the window, looking at the stars. The Moonlight Mailman handed Lila a letter made of light and whispered, 'This dream is about friendship and wonder. You must deliver it with kindness and a gentle heart.'
Lila placed the letter in Milo’s hands, and as she did, a warm glow spread across his face. He smiled, and the stars above twinkled brighter. When Lila returned to the Moonlight Post Office, the Mailman handed her a star to keep. 'This is for you,' he said, 'for your kindness and courage.'
When Lila returned home, her parents were worried, but she simply said, 'I met the Moonlight Mailman, and he gave me a star.' She placed it on her nightstand and fell into the sweetest sleep she had ever had. And from that night on, every bedtime felt like a magical journey into the sky.
The end.
