Princess Bentley and the Great River Rescue

In the kingdom of Oakhaven, Princess Bentley was not known for her silk dresses or her glass slippers. Instead, she was famous for her iron-grip handshake and her ability to outrun the fastest horses in the royal stables. While other royals spent their afternoons practicing their polite waves, Bentley was busy scaling the tallest oak trees or wrestling friendly forest giants in a game of tag. She was as strong as an ox and as fearless as a mountain lion.

One sunny Tuesday, the village bells rang out in alarm. The Crystal River, which provided water to all the farms and animals, had suddenly slowed to a tiny trickle. The Royal Scouts returned with grim news: a massive boulder, larger than a cottage, had tumbled from the Iron Peak and blocked the river’s path. The knights tried to move it with heavy ropes and teams of horses, but the rock wouldn’t budge an inch. The kingdom began to worry as the crops started to wilt under the hot sun.

"Step aside," Bentley said, rolling up her sleeves and tying her long hair back. The knights looked at her small frame and laughed, but Bentley didn't mind. She grabbed her favorite sturdy hiking staff and headed toward the mountain alone. She knew that strength wasn't just about size; it was about heart and leverage.

The climb was steep and the wind was howling, but Bentley didn't flinch. When she reached the summit, she saw the problem. The boulder was wedged tight between two jagged cliffs. She didn't just try to push it with raw power. She looked around and found a long, fallen cedar trunk that was thick and strong.

Using the trunk as a lever and a smaller stone as a pivot, Bentley planted her feet firmly into the dirt. She took a deep breath, her muscles tensing. "One, two, THREE!" she grunted. With a mighty heave, she pressed down on the log. The ground trembled. Slowly, the massive boulder began to groan and shift. With one final, powerful push, the rock tumbled forward, splashing into a deep ravine away from the water’s path.

The river surged forward with a roar, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. Bentley stood at the edge, her hair messy and her boots muddy, watching the water race back to the valley. When she returned to the palace, the villagers cheered louder than they ever had for a parade. Bentley didn't want a crown; she just wanted a cold glass of water and a new tree to climb.
